11. September 2012 – Benjamin Netanyahu criticised the US government for not stopping the development of nuclear weapons in Iran. Furthermore, the US government was criticised for holding back Israel from launching a military attack. 10. September 2012 – Jewish communities across Latin America growing year by year. Currently 500, 000 Jews reside in Latin America. One of the reasons is the economic transformation of the region. Dr. Heinz Fischer, Austrian president, condemned far-right leader for positing anti-Semitic cartoon

10. September 2012 – Heinz-Christian Strache, the leader of the Austrian far right-Freedom Party FPÖ, posted an anti-Semitic cartoon three weeks ago on his Facebook page. It now was officially condemned by the Austrian Preseident, Heinz Fischer.  Read more.

Jewish human rights organizations criticised Estonian mock ad for portraying concentration camp survivors 

10. September 2012 – Eesti Ekspress, an Estonian newspaper, published a mock ad for weight-loss pills portraying prisoners at concentration camps. After human rights organizations complained, Sulev Vedler, deputy editor of Eesti Ekspress, apologized but stated that the mock ad ran in the humour section and was making fun at a local gas company, which recently used a picture of Auschwitz to promote its services. Noam Gershony wins gold at 2012 Paralympics in London

8. September 2012 – Israeli tennis player, Noam Gershony, won the first Olympic gold for Israel since 2004. The wheel chair tennis player beat the American opponent, David Wagner, 6-3, 6-1. After his achievement, he was selected as Israel’s flag bearer in the closing ceremony on September 9th. Read more.

Iran criticizes Canada’s decision to cut diplomatic ties 

8. September 2012 – After the Canadian government cut diplomatic ties with Iran, the government in Teheran accused Canada of behaving under British and Israeli influence. Ramin Mehmanparast, Foreign Minister of Iran, criticized Anti-Iranian policies by the Harper government. Read more.

7. September 2012 – The presidential election in Venezuela is scheduled for October 7th. Current president, Hugo Chavez, a Catholic, and Henrique Capriles Radonski of Jewish descent, run against each other. 7. September 2012 – The President of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Spain, Issac Querub, asked the Royal Spanish Academy, which is responsible for regulating the Spanish language, to remove the word “Judiada” from Spanish dictionaries. Read more.

French judge convicts soccer fan performing Hitler salute

7. September 2012 – A French soccer fan was seen performing the Hitler salute at a soccer game on January 28th. In most European countries the Hitler salute is forbidden, France is one of them. The 32 year old was fined by a French court and has to pay $910. Also, he is barred for five years from the local soccer stadium.  Read more.

A synagogue for Montenegro 

7. September 2012 – When two chairmen of the recently established European Jewish Parliament, Vadim Rabinovich and Joel Rubinfeld, visited Montenegro, they raised the issue of building a synagogue for Montenegro’s Jews. Montenegro has 660, 000 residents of which 12 are Jewish. President Filip Vijanovic and other politicians support the idea. Read more.

Muslim communities all over the world criticize and threaten him following his in-depth analysis of the Islamic faith. 40th anniversary of Munich massacre

6. September 2012 – A memorial service was held yesterday near Munich to honour eleven Israeli victims of the terror attack in 1972. On September 5th, 1972 eight Palestinian terrorist from the Black September terror group entered the Olympic Village in Munich and murdered eleven Israeli sportsmen. Read more.

At Unity Event Imams deny the increase of antisemitism in Europe and the world

6. September 2012 – European Jewish and Muslim leaders met for the second time in the French capital, Paris. One of the points focused on was increased anti-Semitism. Jewish leaders urged their Muslim counterparts to talk to their communities. Most Imams present denied the increase and stated that the media is exaggerating. Read more. 

Pro-Israel Event barred by German intelligence agency 

6. September 2012 – The pro-Israel NGO, German-Israel Friendship Society, planned a pro-Israel event at the University of Rostock. Justus Westmüller, a popular author among pro-Israel left wing Germans, was to hold a lecture about solidarity towards Israel. Both the University and the German intelligence agency spoke out against the lecture and cancelled it. Read more. 

Buddhist monks in Burma demand for expulsion of Muslims living in the country 

6. September 2012 – Buddhist monks in Burma protesting in the streets to support their country’s President’s, Thein Sein, proposal to either deport members of the Rohingya Muslim community or send them to camps. The protest follows months of unrest after a Buddhist woman was raped and killed earlier this year in June. Read more. 

Six Jewish tombstones desecrated in a graveyard in the German city of Rostock 

5. September 2012 – Anti-Semitic slurs and graffiti of swastikas were found on six Jewish tombstones. As of now, the local police have one suspect that they are trying to track down. Germany is currently facing a new wave of anti-Semitism. Read more.

5. September 2012 – The Mayor of Budapest announced the cancellation of an anti-Semitic play that was to be performed in the Hungarian capital.  György Dorner, the director of the New Theatre in Budapest, informed the Mayor that the theatre would replace it with another play on a different subject. Woman in Turkey awaiting trial after beheading her rapist 

5. September 2012 – A 26-year old woman, Nevin Yildirim, was raped multiple times by a man while her husband was outside of town. He threatened the young mother to kill her and her children if she goes public with it. One night she shot him with a rifle, beheaded him and carried the head to the centre of the town. Read more. 

Jewish group in South Africa fighting “occupied territories” labels 

5. September 2012 - The South African Zionist Federation is taking legal actions against the labelling of products coming from disputed territories with “occupied Palestinian territory”.  All the documents related to the decision were requested by the President of the Federation. Read more. 

Mayor of Lublin to block the construction of a commercial crematorium near Majdanek 

5. September 2012 – Mayor Krysztof Zuk promised to do everything possible to block the construction of a crematorium next to the Majdanek concentration camp.  His goal is to turn the zone surrounding the former concentration camp into a protected area. Read more. 

Jewish school girls verbally assaulted in Berlin 

5. September 2012 – Female students from the ultra-Orthodox “Or Avner” school in Berlin were surrounded on Monday by a group of people attacking them verbally and chanting anti-Semitic slurs. The local police stated that none of the students was physically hurt. Read more.

An Iranian journalist claims that Zionism spreads homosexuality in order to control the world

5. September 2012 – A state-controlled Iranian newspaper printed the article by a local journalist claiming Zionism is the reason for the spread of homosexuality in the world. Experts criticised Iran for being both anti-Semitic and homophobic. Read more. 

Online anti-Semitism survey in nine EU countries launched 

5. September 2012 – The European Union launched an online survey in nine of its member states. Its purpose is to analyse how Jews experience anti-Semitism in the nine participating member states. The results will be published next year in an EU report. Read more. 

Mayor of Brussels apologized for deportations of Jewish inhabitants during the Holocaust 

4. September 2012 – Mayor Freddy Thielemans apologized on Sunday at a ceremony in Brussels City Hall for the deportation of Jews during the Holocaust. The Belgian city registered Jewish people living in it in the 1940s. Read more.

3. September 2012 – Due to security concerns, High Holiday prayers were cancelled in the only synagogue in Alexandria.  The Eliyahu Hanavi synagogue in Alexandria is one of the world oldest active synagogues and the largest in the Middle East. Read more.

3. September 2012 – For the first time in the history of the Egyptian State TV an anchor-woman presented the news wearing a hijab. Critical voices suspect the Muslim Brotherhood is planning in introducing Sharia Law to Egypt. While former president Mubarak was in office, women wearing hijabs could only work behind the camera. 2. September 2012 - The Mongolian President, Tsakhia Elbegdorj, visited, as first foreign leader, the Natanz nuclear plant in Iran. Last week the Iranian government denied diplomats during the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit to visit any nuclear plants in the country. Read more.

2. September 2012 - Almir Salihovic, a Muslim resident of Srebrenica, and his Catholic fiancée, Dusica Rendulic, are planning the first interfaith wedding, since the end of the war, in May.  Only a few couples in Bosnia are willed to marry outside their ethnicity. Read more.

1.September 2012 – Last week a group of 19 Polish travellers went to Israel in order to discover Judaism and what living in a Jewish state looks like. Shavei Israel, the group that organized the trip, said that giving people the chance visiting Israel also benefits, people get more aware about the Jewish cause and may sympathise more with Israeli policies.
