24. September 2012 - Germany launched war crimes investigation against Johann ‘Hans’ Breyer, a former SS guard at the Auschwitz death camp. Breyer stated he was stationed outside of the concentration camp and has nothing to do with the murder of 1.5 million Jews. Read more.

24. September 2012 - Catherine Ashton, the EU’s foreign policy chief, was asked by foreign ministers of Germany, France and the UK to toughen sanctions against Iran. Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is going to address a speech to the UN later this week. Read more. 

European Jews support French Jews against Marine Le Pen

23. September 2012 – Marine Le Pen, leader of France’s far-right party National Front (FN), called on for the ban of religious symbols in public spaces. When he was asked if the ban would also includes Jewish kippas, Marine Le Pen stated that the FN would “obviously (….) ban the kippa in public places.” Read more.

Protesters in Toronto demand government actions against anti-Islamic movie 

22. September 2012 – Zafar Bangash, director of the Institute of Contemporary Islamic Thought, organised a protest against the anti-Islamic film, Innocence of Muslims, last Saturday in Toronto. 1,500 people attended and chanted anti-US, anti-Canadian and anti-Western slurs. Read more. 

German postal service to deliver neo-Nazi newsletters 

20. September 2012 –The German postal service, Deutsche Post, legally has to deliver un-addressed far right newsletters published by the NPD, German’s neo-Nazi National Democratic Party. German federal court in Karlsruhe ruled that the NPD has the same rights as any other German political party. Read more. 

Islam Gallery opened at the Musée du Louvre despise political tensions between the Western and the Islamic world

21. September 2012 – The Islamic art wing of the Louvre officially opened today, a gallery hosting Islamic art collections from Islamic countries of the Near East and ancient Persia. It is one of the most extensive Islamic art collections in Europe ranging from the 7th to the 19th century. Read more. 

Nazi war criminal Dr. Aribert Heim died 1992 officially confirmed

21. September 2012 – In 2009 the German public television channel, ZDF, and the New York Times reported that “Doctor Death”, Dr. Aribert Heim, died in Cairo in 1992. Shortly after, German weekly news magazine, Der Spiegel, published an article saying that there is no proof of his death. German judicial authorities officially confirmed for the first time Heim died in 1992. Read more. 

Holocaust Memorial Center opened at Drancy Transit Camp in France 

21. September 2012 – Almost 70 years after the first deportations of French Jews, a Memorial Center opened at Drancy Transit Camp in the suburb of Paris. François Hollande inaugurated the new memorial today and stated that educating the French people is very important to prevent the past from coming alive again. Read more.

20. September 2012 – Alan Shatter, Ireland’s Minister of Justice and Minister of Equality and Defence, spoke last week at an event marking Raoul Wallenberg’s 100th birthday. 20. September 2012 – The German government launched a database providing law enforcement agencies with information about potentially violent neo-Nazis, replacing a system that limited different state and federal authorities in Germany from sharing information. Read more. 

Danish Jews to join Malmö’s Jewish community for Holocaust memorial ceremony 

20. September 2012 – Danish Jews are planning to travel to the Swedish city of Malmö on September 23rd. Malmö’s Jewish community is facing a lot of anti-Semitism and hate, historically linked together, and the Danish community is going to show their support. Read more. 

Man in Elmo costume was arrested for shouting anti-Semitic rant in the middle of Times Square

19. September 2012 – 48 year old man arrested for shouting anti-Semitic slurs on Times Square in New York. It is not the first time the man got detained. In June he was already removed from Central Park in an ambulance. Read more.

19. September 2012 – Anti-Semitic sentiments on the rise in Europe. The situation seems to be worse in Eastern European countries like Hungary, Poland and the Ukraine. Read more.

Grenade thrown into suburban Paris‘ kosher market 

19. September 2012 – A kosher store in Paris’ suburb of Sarcelles was damaged by a grenade. One shopper was injured.  Sarcelles is known for having a large Jewish community, mostly immigrants from Northern Africa. Read more. 

German foundation cancelled plan to show “The Innocence of Muslims” excerpts 

19. September 2012 – The German “Cinema for Peace” Foundation has cancelled its plan of showing parts of the controversial movie. Originally “Cinema for Peace” wanted to show excerpts of the movies, among others, in context of a debate on free speech and films on October 1st. Read more.

19. September 2012 – 20 cartoons portraying Muslim Prophet Mohammed were published in French weekly, satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo. Riot police were deployed to protect the magazines offices in Paris.  The French government urged Charlie Hebdo not to publish the controversial cartoons in the past. Read more. 

Toronto Blue Jays’ Yunel Escobar suspended for 3 games for homophobic slur

18. September 2012 - The Toronto Blue Jays announced that Yunel Escobar was suspended for three games after a controversial photo of him circulated the internet. The picture showed Escobar playing a Saturday game with the Spanish words for “You are a fagot” written in his eye black. Read more.

Far-right group in Germany planning to show anti-Islam film: German FM, Guido Westerwelle, is against it 

18. September 2012 – German far-right group, Pro-Deutschland, announced its plan to show anti-Islam movie in cinemas. The German Foreign Minister, Guido Westerwelle, condemned the plan. Interior Minister, Hans-Peter Friedrich, stated further that it is a question of banning public screenings, not a question of banning the film. Read more. 

Palestinian Authority might cancel Oslo Accords with Israel 

18. September 2012 – Chief Palestinian negotiator, Saeb Erekat, said in a statement that the Palestinian leadership is considering cancelling the Oslo Accords with Israel. Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, stated on Sunday September 16th that, additionally, “associated economic and security arrangements” may be cancelled. Read more. 

Jewish Museum in Berlin hosted anti-Israel event on Saturday 15th

16. September 2012 – 700 people attended a podium discussion with US Judith Butler. Butler stated and called for a boycott of Israel. Jewish academics worldwide cried out and criticised Berlin’s decision to host Butler as a key speaker in an event, calling it an insult to the Jewish people. Read more.

14. September 2012 – During the demonstration in front of the American Embassy in Cairo, September 11th, Abu Islam, a Muslim cleric whose real name is Ahmed Abdullah, tore a Bible. A joyous, celebrating crowd surrounded him. Read more. 

Coptic Christian behind anti-Islam movie, not Jewish Israeli living in the US

14. September 2012 – The man behind the controversial movie was identified by American authorities as a Coptic Christian, who identifies himself as Sam Bacile, an Israeli Jew living in the US. It turned out the filmmaker is the 55 year old Nakoula Basseley originally from Egypt, residing in America. Read more.  

Protesters set fire in Sudan’s German Embassy over anti-Islam movie 

14. September 2012 – Demonstrators broke into the German embassy, raised an Islamic flag and set the entire building on fire.  When protesters forced their way into the embassy, policemen stood by, Reuters witness stated. Read more.

13. September 2012 – The website kuruc.info, which published and edited anti-Semitic content in Hungary, is registered to Béla Varga, a local of Healdsburg/California. Kuruc.info was called “the most active hate group operation in Hungary”. Read more. 

US diplomats trained to identify and combat anti-Semitism 

12. September 2012 – The Obama administration launched a special training for American diplomats to identify and combat anti-Semitism. Hannah Rosenthal, the US special envoy on anti-Semitism, launched the program. Her term is ending next month. Read more. 

Ronald S. Lauder, president of the World Jewish Congress, visited Macedonia

12. September 2012 – Ronald S. Lauder met with the Macedonian president, Gjorge Ivanov, and the Prime Minister, Nikola Gruevski, while visiting the country. Former Hungarian Communist government minister held for war crimes 

11. September 2012 – Béla Biszku, a former interior minister and one of the highest ranking Communist war criminals in Hungary, was detained in connection with two incidents in the Hungarian Uprising in 1956.
