Zara Clothing Company Apologies for Children's Shirt Resembling Holocaust Prison Uniform

Zara is offering a t-shirt reminiscent of prisoner uniforms worn by Jews in Nazi concentration camps. The shirt is for toddlers and is labeled as "a striped sheriff t-shirt", and can be bought for NIS 79.90. Zara has in the meantime taken down the item, destroyed the inventory and apologized in a response. 

The shirt has navy and white horizontal stripes with a yellow star on the top side shaped and colored like the star used by the Nazi regime to mark Jews during the Holocaust. The main difference is that Zara's yellow star has the word "Sheriff" on it, but its visibility is marred by the yellow background which makes the word rather unclear.

Jewish Couple Assaulted in New York City

A Jewish man and wife couple were attacked in New York City Monday, by assailants who shouted anti-Semitic remarks and physically assaulted the two before driving off in vehicles waving Palestinian flags, said a Tuesday report in the New York Post. 

According to the report, police sources wouldn't identify the couple, but said that they lived in the neighborhood where the attack took place on East 63rd Street near Third Avenue.

Antisemitic Flyers Distributed in Jewish Area of Sydney, Australia

Households in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood of Sydney on Monday received fliers calling on "white Australia" to take action against Jews, the Algemeiner website reported. 

According to the report, residents of the suburb of Bondi found the hand-delivered fliers slipped under their front doors and in their mail boxes in the morning,

U.S. Teen Sentenced to 11 Years in Prison for Carving Swastika into Another Teen's Forehead

An Oregon teenager who carved a swastika into another teen's forehead as he and others tortured the boy has been sentenced to 11 years in prison. 

In a Portland courtroom Thursday, 16-year-old Blue Kalmbach told the victim in a barely audible voice that he was "very sincerely sorry."

Jewish School in Denmark Targetted in Antisemitic Attack

A Jewish school in Copenhagen had its windows smashed and anti-Jewish graffiti referring to the conflict in Gaza spray-painted on its walls, the school said Friday. 

"We know that a political message has been written on the walls but we don't know who is responsible," Jan Hansen, headmaster of Carolineskolen, told AFP.

German Police Bungle Hunt for Neo-Nazis

Police and security services in Germany's eastern state of Thuringia bungled the hunt for three neo-Nazis, who years later turned out to be the main suspects in a far-right murder spree, according to an official report published Thursday. 

A panel of lawmakers in the state assembly examined thousands of case files and interviewed dozens of former investigators, concluding that efforts to find the fugitive trio between 1998 and 2003 were a "complete disaster."

Antisemitic Incidents in UK up 500% During Gaza Conflict

The Community Security Trust (CST), an organization providing security, training, and advice to the Jewish community in the United Kingdom, is reporting that anti-Semitic incidents in the country have risen by nearly 500 percent since the start of the current conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. 

CST received more than 240 calls on anti-Semitism in the month of July alone, the organization said, up from around 50 per month earlier this year.

Swedish Jews Tired of Constant Antisemitism Contemplate Emigrating

Death threats, daily anti-Semitic attacks, and harassment are causing many young Swedish Jews of the shrinking 20,000-member community to say “enough,” and seek to establish their futures elsewhere, according to a report by  Zvika Klein of Israel’s NRG News.

“I and my friends decided to leave,” 22-year-old Victor Borsolov, told NRG, after getting his 11th death threat after posting pro-Israeli views on his Facebook page.

Dutch Man Returns Israeli WWII Honour After Family Members Killed in Gaza

A 91-year-old Dutch man honoured by Israel for shielding a Jew from the Nazis has handed back his medal after six of his relatives were killed in a Gaza air strike.

Henk Zanoli returned his Righteous Among the Nations award to the Israeli ambassador in The Hague this week after an Israeli F-16 destroyed his great niece's Gaza home, killing all inside.

French Hamlet Called "Death to Jews" Won't Change Its Name

Prominent Jewish group the Simon Wiesenthal Center has sent a letter to France's interior minister to demand that a tiny hamlet south of Paris called "Death to Jews" be renamed. 

The group's director of international affairs, Shimon Samuels, wrote to Bernard Cazeneuve saying he was "shocked to discover the existence of a village in France officially called "Death to Jews" (La-mort-aux-Juifs).

"Death to Jews" Chanted at Rally in The Hague

A protest in Holland, that was approved by the Dutch government and meant to be a peaceful demonstration against Israel's Gaza operation and against the arrest of an Islamist operative, turned into a terrifying rally of hundreds of ISIS supporters. 

The protesters marched in the streets of The Hague uninterrupted while waving the black ISIS flags, calling "Death to Jews" and shouting other slogans calling to murder and fight the West and specifically the United States.

Italy Expels Imam Accused of Making Violent Antisemitic Comments

Italy expelled a Moroccan imam accused of making violent antisemitic comments during a sermon at a mosque near Venice, the interior ministry said on Tuesday.

Raoudi Albdelbar, an imam from San Dona di Piave near Venice, was accused of creating a serious disturbance to public order, threatening national security and promoting religious discrimination, the ministry said in a statement.

Miami Rabbi Murdered. Antisemitism Suspected

A North Miami Beach rabbi was murdered Saturday morning on his way to temple in what could be the latest show of growing anti-Semitism in the wake of the IDF's Operation Protective Edge in the Gaza Strip, reported NBC. 

Miami-Dade police told NBC that officers were searching for two suspects related to the shooting of Joseph Raksin, a 60-year-old rabbi in the community.

Jewish Children Threatened on School Bus in Sydney, Australia

Dozens of Jewish children have been traumatized by a gang of teenagers who stormed a Sydney school bus and allegedly hurled racial abuse and threats. 

New South Wales state police said five juveniles were arrested early Thursday over the incident on Wednesday afternoon. They were questioned at a police station but were later released without charge into the custody of their parents pending further investigations, a police statement said.

Israel Condemns "Hanging" of Its Leaders in Hungary

Israel's ambassador to Hungary on Tuesday urged the Hungarian government to investigate a mayor near the far-right party Jobbik a city northeast of the country, which ordered the hanging of mannequins in the likeness of Israeli leaders. 

Mihaly Zoltan Orosz, Mayor of Erpatak was filmed ordering the hanging of mannequins with pictures of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former President Shimon Peres, in protest against the Gaza conflict.

Belgian Doctor Refuses to Treat Jewish Patient

Anti-Semitism is on the rise across Europe, notably in locations such as France and Belgium, where several months ago, a gunman killed four innocent civilians at a Jewish heritage museum.

Then, just two weeks ago, a Belgian cafĂ© posted a sign outside its window reading "No Jews Allowed." 

JTA now reports that the anti-Semitic incidents continue to thrive in Belgium, with the latest victim being a Jewish patient who called a doctor asking how to cure a fractured rib.

Australian Newspaper Apologizes for Cartoon Criticized as Being Antisemitic

The widely read Australian newspaper Sydney Morning Herald has issued an apology for publishing a cartoon that Jewish  critics said was blatantly anti-Semitic.

The cartoon, which was published on July 26, portrays a hook-nosed man wearing a skullcap and sitting in an arm chair etched with a Star of David, holding a remote control and watching the shelling of Gaza.

Rabbi Detained After Singing Jewish Songs at Auschwitz

A youth tour guide says he was repeatedly harassed at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp by Polish guards, who demanded that he and the teens he was escorting stop singing, even when they sang quietly and in a distant part of the camp. It ended in a violent arrest and high fine.  

Rabbi Rafi Ostroff, a veteran youth guide in Poland, visited the former Nazi concentration camp last Friday with training groups of the World Bnei Akiva movement from South Africa and Australia.
