It’s a calm winter day
outside of what used to be the embassy of the Soviet Union in
Washington. But during the 1970s and 1980s, every single day saw a vigil
as American activists protested the treatment of Jews trapped behind
the Iron Curtain.
Every day for over 20 years, between 12:30 and 12:45 pm, protestors
staged some form of demonstration, from dancing "Hava Nagila" to reading
Hebrew prayers.
