It’s a calm winter day outside of what used to be the embassy of the Soviet Union in Washington. But during the 1970s and 1980s, every single day saw a vigil as American activists protested the treatment of Jews trapped behind the Iron Curtain.

Every day for over 20 years, between 12:30 and 12:45 pm, protestors staged some form of demonstration, from dancing "Hava Nagila" to reading Hebrew prayers.
